Are You a Candidate for LASIK?

LASIK Eye Surgery Rochester.
Clearly Ahead of the Curve.

LASIK or Laser-in-situ Keratomileusis is an FDA-approved procedure to reshape the curvature of the outer cornea of the eye with an excimer laser. It is a reliable and in the vast majority of cases painless way to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. The procedure changes the way light is bent, or refracted, as it passes through the cornea so that it focuses properly on the retina and objects can be seen clearly.

Dr. Allan Robbins – LASIK Eye Surgery Rochester

Traditionally, LASIK involves cutting a flap in the cornea with a hand-held mechanical instrument called a microkeratome which is an automated oscillating blade. In 2008 Dr. Robbins introduced the Femtosecond laser to the Rochester area to create the LASIK flap with greater precision and safety. Since then other centers in the region have slowly adopted similar technology but Robbins Eye has continued to advance the art of LASIK with new innovations.

Low Energy Laser Cuts the Initial Flap

Our latest Zeimer Z6 FEMTO LDV™ laser uses an ultra-fast, tightly-focused, low-energy laser beam to create the flap at a precise and consistent depth with an even greater safety profile and enhanced abilities to customize the procedure to your individual eye. The Z6 not only allows for greater control of the flap size and thickness but allows adjustments to the parameters on the fly in real time. This level of precision and customization has never been possible before. Creation of the ideal flap is the critical first step in LASIK surgery. It is the foundation that allows us to move onto the next step of the procedure—the excimer laser reshaping of the corneal tissue to create a new curvature—without any waiting time.

The Corneal Recurving is Performed With the Same Laser That Received the Best Clinical Trial Results

The ablation of tissue and actual corneal recurving is performed with the latest Wavelight EX500 Excimer Laser. This is the newest LASIK laser to receive FDA approval and has produced results in clinical trials superior to any other laser currently on the market. The EX500 also has the broadest range of treatment parameters allowing Robbins Eye to successful treat individuals that have been told elsewhere that they are not candidates. The unique combination of the Z6 Femtosecond platform combined with the tissue sparing nature of the EX500 opens the possibility of LASIK surgery to many individuals with thin corneas or stronger than average prescriptions. The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the only excimer laser to operate at 500 Hz, with an average treatment time of approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter!
